Bai Lu Leads Modern Romance Drama “Kai Dao Tu Mi”

Bai Lu has started work on a new drama, her first drama since parting ways with the agency she spent a decade with. The drama, adapted from the novel The Last Blossom (开到荼蘼) by Yi Shu, is seen as a move away from the costume dramas that have defined much of her career. Directed by Li Muge, the series is set in the 1990s and follows Wang Yunna, a woman who is devastated by betrayal and imprisonment before eventually returning for revenge.

Bai Lu is credited under her birth name, Bai Mengyan, sharing the lead with Hong Kong actress Samantha Ko and Chang Huasen. Peng Guanying, whose role is central to the heroine’s tragic story, is listed as a special star, despite the importance of his role. Maggie Huang Mengying is also part of the cast.

Filming officially started in Foshan on July 24, 2026. Bai Lu will undergo a major transformation, from an innocent young woman with long black Completed Novel hair to a sharp, composed, and emotionally distant woman with short hair in the revenge arc. However, fans expressed dissatisfaction with Wang Yunna’s wig and clothing featured in photos from the set and have been demanding changes. Nevertheless, the short hair is apparently staying, as it is part of the plot, though production has reportedly agreed to make improvements to the hairstyle.

In Kai Dao Tu Mi, the story follows Wang Yunna, who is deeply affected by a past relationship. Seven years later, she returns to her parents and meets Zuo Wensi, a up-and-coming star in the fashion world. The two get engaged, but she quickly learns that Zuo Wensi’s brother-in-law is her (former lover|ex-lover|previous lover}, Teng Haiqi. Apparently, the original novel combines suspense, melodrama, romance, and tragedy, with a murder also playing a role in the plot.
